Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns
Sustainability is something that has been a major talking point in the fight for the environment. Each year around $1 trillion worth of food rots away before it can even be consumed. The water and energy to produce and transport this food is also wasted. All of this causes extreme stress on the environment and wastes what little resources we have to start off with.
Currently over 1 billion people still do not have access to fresh drinking water. On top of this we are currently polluting water in rivers and lakes faster than nature can clean and purify itself. Excess use of clean water only causes more resource stress on the rest of the world. Doing simple things like taking shorter showers and flushing your toilet less is something the average person can do to help this effort.
Energy use is also a major problem in the effort to sustain a good environment. If everyone in the world switched to energy efficient lightbulbs it would save the planet $120 billion a year. This is just another side of the problem that is plaguing our planet.
